OSCARS 2011, Part 1

Natalie Portman in Rodarte dress, Tiffany jewelry and Jimmy Choo shoes

OK peopple, we have a lot to talk about!

I thought I'd start with Natalie, since it was her big night! She seems to have hit just about every adult milestone in one year, and what a year it was!! I think this style is strategic for a pregnant woman... Catherine Zeta Jones circa her win for Chicago comes to mind, also wearing an off-the-shoulder cleavageBearing number for her pregnant win...it draws attention to the breasts, shoulders and neckline, which are just about the only areas of the body worthy of accenting during pregnancy (at least if you're trying to carry it with any sort of class).

But she looks brilliant in this plum color you gotta give it to her. Pregnancy is the hardest look to pull off, but she makes it look effortless. A radiant beauty, she is.

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana

Ok, I might be the only one to say this, but I like this look on her. I thought it looked darkly romantic and was something different for her. A lot of people are saying it doesn't pop on the red carpet, which is true. But aside from that, this works for me. I like the texture of her bed head hair and the slightly darker shade looks beautiful on her. The hair compliments the dress, which really has some pretty coloring to it. It's definitely a nod to the lingerie trends we have been seeing on the runways for spring.

Anyway, I'm not putting her on my best dressed or anything, but I definitely didn't hate this. Seems like it's sexy in a more demure way, as opposed to the obvious sexy she usually inhabits.

And here come the best nudes (not Halle Barry)...

Wait, who is that? Oh, it's Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier

Ok, when I first saw her on screen, I was stunned by this look. The whole thing...the dress, the body shape, the hair, the make-up... I could barely wrap my head around the fact that it was Mandy Moore, who I swore off after her unforgiveable acting in the shooting episode of Grey's Anatomy.

But there she was, looking very statuesque and poised. There's a confidence and presence there that I never would have expected out of her...and for that, I applaud her.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa dress, Ferragamo clutch and shoes

This, I thought was the best nude, however. This girl is only 14!? Those heels are insane! This was a close call and almost went into my top 3. She helped to design it too, so cute! It's kind of like a Cinderella dress with a nude, cropped twist.

It's brilliant I think, this is really one of the first times I've noticed her this awards season and I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on her in the future. She's a young Natalie Portman! I love the entire look.

RED HOT...

Jennifer Hudson in Versace and Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang

The reds commanded some attention this year. And those who went with it really wore it to perfection. Jennifer is clearly loving that new body of hers, as she should. The orangy red hue looks magnificent on her skin tone. And Sandra looks incredible in the deeper blood red. Jesus, when they're lined up next to each other Jennifer almost looks thinner than Sandra at the waist! I know that's just an illusion though..or is it?

And Sandra was hilariously dry in her delivery of the best actor Nominees, she should have hosted!

Javier Bardem in Gucci and Penelope Cruz in L'Wren Scott

Ok, this isn't the best he has ever looked...The chubster face is a far cry from the Juan Antonio that seduced me in Vicky Christina Barcelona.

But they just look so happy and are such an amazing couple, I'll still love him not matter how much he lets himself go. And look at her body right after giving birth, I mean she's on fire...literally. This couple is iconic though...so much talent between the two of them it's intense. Their baby is going to be a beautiful genius.

Jennifer Lawrence in Cavin Klein

This was not much of a risk or anything, but looked absolutely amazing on her. I thinks she looks drop dead. Like what every girl wants to look like. You don't get much closer to a bombshell than this. The dress is simple, but it makes a huge impact. And again, the orangy red really pops out at you in a vibrant way.

Nicole Kidman in Dior Haute Couture with husband, Keith Urban

Now, this dress was a risk for her, I'll give her credit for that (not too many risks taken last last night, keep in mind). Whether or not it worked out for her is up for debate. Looking at it on video footage the night of, I thought she was looking like a hot mess, but looking at it here, I can kind of appreciate the look. The shape of it is interesting and I do love the pop of color with the orange shoes. The hair looks like she did it herself, but somehow it still kind of works on her. And the color certainly compliments the dress. I almost wish she would have worn her hair down and wavy though.

Ugh, I think she could have looked a lot better, but I do have some respect for the dress and the look she was going for. I don't think she quite pulls it off though, sigh.

A-LIST MOMENT

Aaah, no matter what they're wearing these two are Hollywood royalty and I loved this picture, I just had to include it. And I like how Nicole Kidman's necklace creates a line down her back, now that's an unexpected accessory!

I'll get to Gwyneth later...

More to come...
