Treasury

This place is great! Definitely makes my top five for boutiques for vintage in DC. This place might be a little more modern than Mercedes Bien, but less of a selection.

But a very carefully picked selection, that's for sure. Bought a skirt here, but wanted much more. Lots of original pieces, including hats, purses, jewelry, and sometimes shoes.

Different people/stores define "vintage" in different ways, but I generally go by the pre-1990 definition. If this is your guideline base, certainly not everything in the store is vintage...some resale stuff, but their emphasis is more based on design than a timeline. I talked to one of the owners who said they buy some newer stuff if the piece has good design elements.

A special attention to craft can hardly be faulted.

Some more expensive items, some on the lower end (my skirt was $34). But this is another store where I don't think I would come out empty handed.

The owners are originally from DC and have a great eye for style. I like the blog on their website for style ideas too.

They are having their Fall Collection Party there tomorrow (Saturday, September 19th) from 2-6 pm with refreshments and DJs. Go check it out!

Also on Saturday, the 19th...Immortal Beloved Launch Party 8:00 pm-?

Lots to do this weekend!

The Light and the Dark

Home sweet home.

The back of this tank looks like a neck tie and the front is asymmetrical with white fringe falling down the left side. It is adorable. Fumblin' Foe available at Ebay, Dillards, Overstock, South Moon Under, and Boutiques

Boxer Girl

I don't know about anyone else, but I like the Boxer Girl mural. I can see why the neighbors are pissed and it is beyond me how the artist got away with using public funds for this. But I think the painting itself is vibrant and outrageous and beautiful.

Absolutely love this Dress: Nido

Green bow (can be tied in back or doubled around to the front)

Sun Ride

Tank: Nido

Felt Fedora: Urban Outfitters

Gold-rimmed Aviators: Urban Outfitters

Although the felt on this hat makes it lean toward winterish, it transitions nicely into spring and summer months when you're having a bad hair day or just feel like taking on that detective, incognito kind of persona. And God, I love how the color gray just goes with anything.

Things are looking up

Meeps

Ok, I have mixed feelings about this place. It is beyond me how it beat out Mercedes for best DC vintage shop in Washington City Paper the past two years (mental note...vote next year). I might even prefer Junction to this shop. Their variety of vintage clothing includes a lot of flamboyant 70s and 80s numbers that might be cool to look at, but to wear? Eh, not sure about that (and I certainly don't shy away from outrageous pieces of fashion). I would definitely go back around Halloween maybe, or if I ever needed a costume for an 80s prom or early 20th century Kentucky Derby party or a gothic wedding or who knows. But for every day style, I found most of their selection completely unwearable.

Now, the local focus section is worth checking out. I found myself gravitating toward this small section of the store when the vintage racks weren't really doing it for me. They carry a few local designers, who had some interesting stuff on display and the owner has a few original pieces for sale as well. However, Dekka is far better for the local stuff, with a much more extensive selection of local designer duds.

Overall, a cute store with some possibilities, but not a place a I would frequent too often when other stores in the near vicinity are superior.

The Brass Knob

This place is cool. I would recommend going here if you are looking for some unique home items or fixtures of any sort. They offer a broad selection of antique lighting, hardware, and interior/exterior decorative items. Some of the stuff is a little pricy, but if my budget for home decoration was a little higher, I would deem it completely worthy to buy some cool antiques from this store, especially if you are looking for a statement piece for a certain room, like a chandelier or something like that.

A very interesting store to poke around in for a while, even if you don't buy anything.

Check it out!

Mercedes Bien - One of Best Vint Boutiques in DC

Mercedes Bien Vintage Go here! No, seriously...go. She has a fantastic collection of vintage pieces! I found lots of stuff in there I wanted to buy and spent over an hour in there just trying things on and talking to the owner (Mercedes). She is incredibly personable and interesting to talk to, albeit a liiiitle pushy at times. She has been buying and selling vintage clothing/shoes/accessories/jewelry/knick knacks her whole life and it shows. She hand picks every piece, caters to many different styles and showcases pieces from several different eras. You can tell she values every customer that walks into her store and gives each the attention they deserve.

She even offered to put me on a payment plan when I told her I couldn't afford everything I wanted. I didn't know what my life was digressing to if I had to finance vintage clothes!

She had an awesome purse and wallet I was inspecting that was made completely out of cigarette cartons. Upon looking at the tag I read that it was prison art, so she explores different artistic mediums in her buying practices.

I thought the presentation of merchandise was great too...a lot of the shoes she had on display were showcased on top of old Ferragamo boxes.

Her collection also includes a smaller men's section and nightgowns, some lingerie, and sleepwear.

FYI only open on weekends though...Sat: 12-6/ Sun: 12-5

Go check it out!!
