Accessories by Aimee

As you may or may not have heard me mention, my lovely sister designs and handmakes eclectic jewelry and funky accessories. She packages beautifully too (see above), so they make for perfectly unique gifts. Here is a little showcase of some of her pieces...

These earrings are really a beautiful color. I'm always surprised by how well purple can function as a statement color or neutral. The deep amethyst hue of these earrings look fantastic against a black outfit or blend seamlessly with lots of wild prints. They're not heavy to wear and compliment any eye color.

The rustic floral pattern on these along with the tassels give them a great vintage Romantic feel. Worn best with a slightly bohemian inspired outfit.

I love the burned mustard color of the cloth layers as juxtaposed to the pearl that envelops them on each side. They look great with a navy blue or charcoal top.

I love asymmetrical necklaces and Aimee makes some with beautiful details like the one above.
A big detail like the flower adds a punch to any ensemble.

Long tasseled scarf perfect for a casual Saturday

She also does her own patterns and stamping like on this darling little number.
It's also nice to wear a scarf that you don't have to constantly worry about draping ever so perfectly. All of her pieces are very low-fuss without sacrificing the cute factor.

This one could also be worn as a headband or head piece of some sort. Always fun to have pieces you can wear in different ways and make your own!

If you would like to contact her about designing something for you, she is available and taking orders. Her email address is elmeraimee@gmail.com. She will personalize anything to your tastes and style and loves working with different looks and perspectives.

Like so many others out there, I think Aimee and I both love to create.

Back Lace

Cardigan from Crossroads, necklace handmade by Aimee Elmer

I've been wearing this cardigan a lot since I got it. It's a versatile piece that will work in all seasons and transitions well into fall. It's a beautiful summer piece too. The back of it plunges down into a lace-filled V that makes it dainty, but intriguing and structural.

Here is the front of it. The waist is cinched in with an elastic band = flattering shape. The braiding down the front + the 3 buttons are cute details. The delicate and minimal details in the front allow the back to retain most of the focus.

And a close-up of the back lace. It's got a little 80s vibe going on, I dig it

Looks like a rabbit hole

Incredible?

Rachel McAdams in Marchesa at the Midnight in Paris premiere at Cannes

This flew right past my radar even though I saw some pictures from Cannes, mostly of the Tree of Life cast. But my God, this is a jaw-dropper isn't it?? It's like some sort of slutty Geisha costume, but I mean that in the best way possible. I think this dress is superb.

Destination: Los Angeles

Let me just start by saying that downtown Los Angeles is an excellent place to spend a day and a half exploring.

I wish I could've stayed for longer and I fully intend to go back soon, but I fit a lot into the day I spent there. One awesome thing about LA is that they have huge wholesale stores full of the kind of stuff you can only find at boutiques around the DC area. This music shop above was about two blocks away from where I stayed and I loved walking by it the few times I did. Musical energy is just in the air in L.A. and it's a good feeling.

Pershing Square

Pershing Square is amazing from the outside looking in or the inside looking out!

This sculpture/mural was on the outside of a buidling...I think it's pretty cool.

The place below is from a recognizable scene in a recent movie...500 Days of Summer. The place was really beautiful and pleasant. Every bit as quaint and relaxing as it seems in the movie. It's kind of hidden, which is what makes it so great when you find it. I found it accidentally on the way back to my hostel from MOCA.

This trolley that travels up and down at a diagonal was what originally caught my eye and led me to the general area. I was trying to find the entrance to get on the trolley, but wandered into a tunnel which led me to this grassy benchy area. I immediately freaked out realizing what I had found.

You can't see much of my LA daytime outfit here. I barely got any chance to show it off since the weather was chilly, so I kept my jacket on most of the day. Also the dress is super tight, pretty short, and I wasn't staying in the best part of town if you catch my drift. The dress is oh-so-cute though, it's an Alternative shirtdress I snagged at Loehman's with two front pockets that sit at the thighs. The scarf is from Anthro and the jacket is also from Loehman's.

The architecture in LA is remarkable to look at in some parts.

There are so many interesting shapes that play into each other so fluidly.

I thought this tattoo parlor looked so inviting, all the ones I've ever seen have just looked sketchy. I thought this looked like a cute hair salon! If I lived around a tattoo parlor like this I might have more tattoos.

And of course I was able to fit in a rush shopping job after my sightseeing activities that left me exhausted and my bank account bone dry. I started here and couldn't leave without buying something:

I desperately wanted the graphic Tee with the skeleton and the mini mouse ears, but it was a litle pricey and I got more attached to the cardi. Isn't it so fierce?! It's the perfect combo of creepy and cute, I love it.

I seriously considered both this dress and the chain necklace (if it even qualifies as a necklace? It has loops around the arms that sit at the shoulders and doesn't clasp around the neck). The dress looks fantastic on and I fell in love with the chain piece, but both were pricey and I could really only afford one heavey ticket item. So I ended up settling on the shredded graphic cardigan that I could barely take off once I figured out how to put it on. I featured this hot tamale in my last post, but here's a refresher:

Here are some other boutiques I dashed in and out of...

This is where I got my new fave shades seen in photos above (kapsoul).

L.A. was a trip I wanna go back.

East Wing

The East Wing of the National Gallery of Art makes for quite an interesting backdrop! The sharp angles and lines provided endless opportunities for positioning and appear stunning in the photographs.

Zebra cardigan: Six Hundred (L.A. boutique), charcoal skinny pant: Stitch's at Loehmann's, black tank: GAP, platform sandals: Target, sunglasses: kapsoul (L.A. boutique)

This wildly fun cardigan is one of my favorite West Coast acquisitions. There's a million different ways you can wear it and wind only makes it more fun. It's got the Rock 'n roll vibe that I loved so dearly about downtown Los Angeles while I was there. A Rock 'n Roll vibe is something DC is definitely lacking..but you can find it in unexpected places.

Like here!

I've walked by the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art a hundred times, but never noticed what a trip it is until recently. I was passing by it on my way to the mall and gravitated toward it, inspecting all sides and crevices of these glass openings jutting out from the ground. They are sort of fun to play around in, not to mention a beautifully Louvre-esque addition to the Gallery's exterior.

The angles are so sharp and acute, with geometry and reflections galore. I was giddy to go back there with my sis to take some pictures...and in my new favorite cardi I tackled this place with unequivocal excitement.

The shot above is actually just a reflection on the glass. Some of the reflections appear so clear on the glass, but some sections of it are transparent. This creates the effect of a sort of riddle for the eyes, not quite knowing right away if you are looking through the glass or behind it. I also love the symmetrical blocking on the glass, as juxtaposed to the uneven sizes and varying shapes of the prisms.

Here I squirelled my way into one of the aforementioned crevices. See how you can see through the top part to the fountains, but the the lower parts reflect so vividly.

Rock 'n Roll!!

The sun was also glorious on this particular day, which helped set off the mystery and severity of the whole atmosphere.

I look like I'm walking amidst giant building blocks or dominoes I love it!

I am loving my long hair right now, it's been so long since I've had it. When you cut your hair short, which I did about 3 years ago, it takes forever to grow it long again...but it feels great once you get there. As far as hair goes, I am a long time loyal client of Tyler Larish who currently has a chair at Immortal Beloved.

This location essentially got me thinking and visualizing in different dimensions and depths.
