Meeps

Ok, I have mixed feelings about this place. It is beyond me how it beat out Mercedes for best DC vintage shop in Washington City Paper the past two years (mental note...vote next year). I might even prefer Junction to this shop. Their variety of vintage clothing includes a lot of flamboyant 70s and 80s numbers that might be cool to look at, but to wear? Eh, not sure about that (and I certainly don't shy away from outrageous pieces of fashion). I would definitely go back around Halloween maybe, or if I ever needed a costume for an 80s prom or early 20th century Kentucky Derby party or a gothic wedding or who knows. But for every day style, I found most of their selection completely unwearable.

Now, the local focus section is worth checking out. I found myself gravitating toward this small section of the store when the vintage racks weren't really doing it for me. They carry a few local designers, who had some interesting stuff on display and the owner has a few original pieces for sale as well. However, Dekka is far better for the local stuff, with a much more extensive selection of local designer duds.

Overall, a cute store with some possibilities, but not a place a I would frequent too often when other stores in the near vicinity are superior.

The Brass Knob

This place is cool. I would recommend going here if you are looking for some unique home items or fixtures of any sort. They offer a broad selection of antique lighting, hardware, and interior/exterior decorative items. Some of the stuff is a little pricy, but if my budget for home decoration was a little higher, I would deem it completely worthy to buy some cool antiques from this store, especially if you are looking for a statement piece for a certain room, like a chandelier or something like that.

A very interesting store to poke around in for a while, even if you don't buy anything.

Check it out!
